Argentine Lawyer Detained in Brazil Expresses Distress Over Pending Verdict

Buenos Aires, March 30 (NA) – Agostina Páez, the Argentine lawyer who remains detained in Brazil for racist gestures made in a bar in Rio de Janeiro, stated on Monday that she is 'anguished' while awaiting the final verdict. 'I am very distressed, overwhelmed, and saturated,' expressed the lawyer who had been sentenced to two years in prison suspended for the crime of racial insult, a penalty with a maximum of 15 years in prison. The 29-year-old, who remains monitored with an electronic ankle bracelet, stated that she feels 'a lot of anxiety' about the verdict that the Brazilian Justice will announce. Sources in the case informed NA that the amount of the bail was not stipulated, as it is also at the discretion of the judge, who must or must not impose economic compensation for the alleged illicit act, and there is also no date for a return to Argentina. However, the period of time for which the influencer will continue to be detained is also unknown, despite the defense side having already presented the corresponding arguments without further delays. On March 24, she faced the first instruction and trial hearing, where she was charged with a two-year sentence, and her defender, Carla Junqueira, detailed that the process could take place in Argentina, while recounting that Páez apologized to each of the complainants.
